ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING
Environmental testing simulates extreme environmental conditions experienced by mobile devices and batteries. These tests expose batteries to a variety of conditions such as heat, cold, shock, vibration, altitude, humidity, and corrosion.
Mobile Power Solutions (MPS) has test chambers designed specifically for environmental testing of batteries. Our experienced staff can consult on your expectations of environmental performance, and add their decades of experience with OEM equipment development and battery performance. Our staff are experienced with most environmental battery testing methods for almost any applications and can customize the test scenarios to your specific real-world use scenarios and required global standards.
An overlooked skill that is critical to most environmental tests is fixturing the cell or battery within the test chamber. Proper fixturing of the test subject can increase the success rate of the test, provide consistency of test results, increase throughput, increase product reliability, and allow for easy loading and unloading. If you are testing a non-standard or custom battery, custom fixturing should be designed specifically for that battery.
Our environmental tests for cells and batteries include:
- Thermal Performance Tests – Measures the effect of the ambient temperature for low/high temperatures of – 60°C to +100°C on cell or battery performance.
- Cold Cranking Tests (subset of Thermal Performance Test) – Measures the power capability of cell or battery at an ambient temperature of -30° C
- High Altitude, Low Pressure Tests – Reproduces an unpressurized cabin of an aircraft flying at an altitude up to 100,000 feet
- Humidity Tests – Measures the effect of Relative Humidity (RH) ranges from 20% to 98% RH
- Vibration Tests – Tests the battery at high vibration levels on the X/Y/Z axis to pinpoint areas of weakness and fatigue
- Shock or Drop Tests – Measures and determines the impact resistance of a cell or battery on one to three axis.
